Hardwood orangeries can match the character of some properties more suitably than a conservatory with its larger area of glass. This is particularly important with a south-facing extension that will heat up rapidly on sunny summer days.
The flat roof of an orangery pierced with one or more roof lanterns, in a matching hardwood finish, will protect the interior from the heat of an overhead sun. And as heat rises, the roof lanterns will provide much needed ventilation while still allowing the area beneath to be bathed in natural light. For some people the choice of a hardwood orangery will be dictated by the current fashion for them, while for others the privacy that a hardwood orangery provides, if the property is overlooked by neighbours or from passing pedestrians, will be more important.
